(1) A minimum clearance of 5 m must be maintained between an independent lightning rod and the object being protected to prevent back-flashover when the rod is struck by lightning. Independent lightning rods should be equipped with a dedicated grounding system, maintaining an underground separation distance of at least 3 m from the main grounding grid.
(2) Lightning rods should not be installed on the roof or structural framework of high-voltage distribution equipment rated at 35 kV or below.
Lightning rods mounted on structural frameworks must be connected to the grounding grid and equipped with a concentrated grounding device.
(3) Lightning rods must not be installed on the gantry-style structures (portal frames) of transformers.
(4) Lightning rods and grounding devices must be located more than 3 m away from roadways and exits; otherwise, a 5–8 cm thick layer of crushed stone or asphalt surfacing must be applied to protect personnel from the hazards of step voltage.
(5) It is strictly prohibited to mount overhead lighting lines, telephone lines, broadcast lines, antennas, or similar equipment on lightning rods or their supporting structures.
(6) If lighting fixtures are installed on independent lightning rods or supporting structures, the power supply cables must be lead-sheathed or enclosed in steel conduit, and a section of the cable exceeding 10 m in length must be buried directly underground.
