Before use, verify that the power strip is reliably grounded. For rack-mount surge-protected power strips, pressing the power switch activates the indicators: the grounding indicator lights up to confirm a reliable ground connection, the protection status indicator confirms the surge protection components are functioning correctly, and the power indicator confirms the unit is powered on. During operation, the total power load of connected devices must not exceed the strip's rated power (commonly 2500W). Some models feature a side-mounted overload protection switch; if the total power exceeds the rated limit, the switch automatically trips to cut off power, thereby protecting both the connected devices and the power strip itself.


The status of the indicator lights should be checked regularly. Under normal conditions, the surge protection indicator should remain continuously lit; if it goes out, this may indicate that the surge protection components have failed after absorbing a surge and require replacement. For modern smart surge-protected power strips, users can monitor lightning warnings and the device's operating status in real-time via indicator lights or a dedicated mobile app.

To ensure effective surge protection, select products from reputable brands that have obtained safety certifications such as CCC. During installation, ensure that the wall outlet to which the strip connects has a proper ground connection; if the existing grounding is inadequate, the grounding terminal on the surge-protected power strip must be reliably connected to a grounding grid before use.
